Purbaya Confirms Defence Equipment Budget Prepared: Significant Allocation for Next Year
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has ensured that the budget for the procurement of defence equipment (alutsista) in Indonesia has been prepared. He assessed that the State Budget (APBN) will fully support the procurement of defence equipment to strengthen national defence.
“There is an allocation for next year, and for the year after. Next year is already budgeted, and it is quite large. Therefore, amidst the current uncertainty, what the President said is correct: we must maintain our defence capabilities,” Purbaya told reporters at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Monday, 18 May 2026.
However, Purbaya did not explain in detail the exact amount of the budget to be allocated for defence equipment procurement next year, stating that the figure remains classified.
“Next year, we have also budgeted a quite significant amount. But if you ask for the exact figure, that is also confidential,” he said.
Purbaya emphasised that the State Budget is capable of financing the nation’s defence needs. Beyond defence equipment, Purbaya stated that the state budget is sufficient to fund other flagship programmes.
“Based on our calculations, the budget deficit is below 3 per cent. The deficit is below 3 per cent. So, there is no need to worry. We have calculated everything well, including for MBG (Free Nutritious Meals) and other programmes, without disrupting other development programmes,” he asserted.
It was previously reported that the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, handed over six Rafale fighter jets, four Falcon 8X aircraft, and one Airbus A400M Atlas MRTT at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base on Monday, 18 May 2026. The weaponry-equipped aircraft were handed over by Prabowo with the aim of strengthening Indonesia’s defence equipment, particularly in national strategic air mobility.
“We have just officially received, according to our customs, the addition of defence equipment for our air force. We received six Rafale fighter jets, Falcon transport aircraft, VIP transport aircraft, and the A400,” said Prabowo.
President Prabowo emphasised that the handover of these fighter jets serves as an addition to the strength of the Indonesian Air Force. Furthermore, he touched upon ongoing global conflicts, particularly in the Middle East.
“I believe this is one of the milestones in increasing our strength. We must continuously increase our defence capabilities as a deterrent. We have no interests other than protecting our own territory,” said Prabimos.
