Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) deficit remains well under control amid current global uncertainties. Purbaya stated that the APBN deficit was maintained at 0.7% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as of May 2026, equivalent to Rp 180.4 trillion. “Our APBN deficit is still under control. In the first five months, the deficit was 0.7%. This means that with the current figures, our APBN deficit is still very well managed,” Purbaya said during CNBC Indonesia’s Economic Update 2026, quoted on Tuesday (23/6/2026). According to him, the well-managed deficit was supported by an increase in tax revenue, which was still able to grow at around 20%. “Our main success has been significantly increasing tax revenue. Compared to last year, our tax revenue in the first five months grew by 22.1%. That is a very significant growth. People previously did not expect it could grow like that.” The growth in tax revenue was driven by reforms in the taxation sector recently carried out by the Ministry of Finance. “This is because we carried out reforms in the taxation sector, reorganised the personnel as well, and we imposed punishment on those who did not perform their duties properly in the tax office,” he continued. In addition to the taxation sector, the customs sector through the Directorate General of Customs and Excise also posted positive growth, although not yet substantial. However, Purbaya predicted the customs sector would grow more rapidly by the end of 2026. “Customs and Excise is the same, there has been a fairly significant increase. It is currently still growing at 0.7% compared to last year, but I am confident that by the end of the year it will grow even faster,” Purbaya stated.
