Purbaya Confident Third Quarter 2026 Economic Growth Will Reach 5.4%
Finance Minister Purbability Yudhi Sadewa expects Indonesia’s economic growth in the third quarter of 2026 to be faster than in the second quarter of 2026.
According to him, during the third quarter of 2026, the growth rate of money in circulation has recovered within the financial system, indicating that the space for business expansion is widening.
“It should be faster compared to the second quarter. The fourth quarter will also be faster,” said Purbaya in North Jakarta on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
He estimates that the growth rate for the July, August, and September period will be able to grow by approximately 5.4% year-on-year, higher than the 5.29% realised in the second quarter of 2026.
“Projecting 5.4% or more is easy; we just need to follow the trend. I think we will approach 5.6% again, and towards the end of the year, we could approach 6%,” he asserted.
As is known, the measure of liquidity width in the financial system frequently used by Purbaya is the growth of primary money or M0.
In August 2026, Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded adjusted M0 at Rp2,281.5 trillion, with growth reaching 16.3% year-on-year. Although it is still growing by double digits, the growth rate of primary money slowed slightly compared to the previous month, which was recorded at 17.1% year-on-year.
“Growth should be even better because, as you can see, new money entered the system again in July. July, August, September. It started entering again in July, which is why August was quite significant,” he added.
