Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Director General of Taxation at the Ministry of Finance, Bimo Wijayanto, has responded to statements by Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa regarding flaws in the design of the Coretax system.

Bimo explained that the Coretax system is designed with multi-layered verification mechanisms for every piece of incoming data. This means that taxpayer data is not accepted outright but is immediately cross-checked against various comparative databases from other institutions.

“We will confirm with Dukcapil data, by system, and confirm with data from the Ministry of Investment BKPM. So it’s a looping process like that, and we must have it,” Bimo said when met at the Ministry of Finance office on Friday (27/3/2026).

He acknowledged that several technical challenges arose during implementation. One of the biggest hurdles stemmed from the data migration process from the old system to Coretax.

According to him, the process is not straightforward as it involves adjusting the data dictionary and metadata from the old system to match the structure in the new system.

“This data warehouse involves migration from legacy systems, from the old system, where the data dictionary and all sorts of metadata must be adjusted to the new metadata in Coretax,” he stated.

“Please remember, friends, Coretax was only operational from 1 January 2026. So, of course, there are dynamics that require time, and we also ask for patience from taxpayers because now the tax returns are pre-populated,” he added.
