Purbaya Claims 2026 State Budget Remains Under Control
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the state budget remains stable despite concerns over global economic volatility arising from the Middle East conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. “We always maintain a sustainable budget. With that, we still have room to provide a cushion or buffer against global economic turbulence,” Purbaya said during a press conference held via Zoom on Tuesday evening, 31 March 2026. He explained that the government’s current budget calculations are still on a controlled track with the deficit in line with planning. These calculations, according to him, use assumptions of the average US dollar exchange rate until the end of the year. According to Purbaya, there is no reason for the public to worry about the 2026 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). The government, he said, has calculated budget projections until the end of the year and ensured that its management remains under control. As an effort to respond to global dynamics deemed to affect domestic supply chains and energy, the government has established several efficiency measures. Some of these policies include setting work-from-home for civil servants (ASN) every Friday. Then, restrictions on the use of official vehicles by up to 50 percent and cuts to domestic official travel by 50 percent and overseas by up to 70 percent. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the ASN work-from-home policy has the potential to save fuel subsidies in the 2026 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) by Rp 6.2 trillion. He also estimated that savings in public fuel expenditure could reach Rp 59 trillion.
