Purbaya Claims 2025 State Budget Deficit Shrinks to 2.8%
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that the audit of the 2025 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) indicates a reduction in the deficit from the original 2.91% to 2.8%.
Purbaya disclosed this finding in the audit of the 2025 Central Government Financial Report (LKPP).
“So (the deficit) is around 2.8%. Wait for the official announcement, but it provides room from unspent funds. We are providing a surplus balance from this year,” Purbaya stated during a working meeting with Commission XI, quoted on Tuesday (7/5/2026).
Purbaya noted that the government’s surplus budget balance, or SAL, reaches Rp420 trillion. According to Purbaya, this large SAL is negative in another sense because it means the government has not spent.
However, this is positive during times of shocks, as the SAL can serve as a fiscal cushion. “So our budget is safe,” he stressed.
The Finance Minister urged the public not to be swayed by speculation regarding the state of the nation’s finances. He affirmed that the government’s fiscal capacity is still adequate to support various established policies.
“The public doesn’t need to worry; our money is sufficient. Every policy given certainly has cost implications, and we have calculated it to be enough,” he asserted.
On the other hand, the Finance Minister explained that the deficit increase at the beginning of the year is a consequence of the government’s accelerated spending strategy. This step was taken to maintain more even economic growth, rather than concentrating it at the end of the year as in previous patterns.
“I want to create government spending growth that is almost even throughout the year. So the large deficit is a logical consequence of our policy,” he said.
