Purbaya Celebrates First Eid as Finance Minister, Prays for Greater Wealth and Happiness for Indonesians
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa celebrated Eid al-Fitr with deep gratitude during his first Lebaran since taking office as the nation’s treasurer on 8 September 2025, succeeding Sri Mulyani Indrawati. In this moment, Purbaya offered prayers for all citizens across the country, including hopes that Indonesians would become more prosperous and joyful. “Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri, mohon maaf lahir batin. Semoga ke depan semuanya makin sukses, makin senang, makin kaya, makin bahagia,” Purbaya stated to the media, as quoted from TikTok @PurbayaYudhiSadewa, on Saturday, 21 March 2026. In the relaxed atmosphere of the holiday, Purbaya shared details about the traditional Eid menu at his home, which was no different from that of ordinary Indonesians. Even the sage green koko shirt he wore bore stains from opor. “Just ketupat, rendang, opor,” he said briefly. On this occasion, Purbaya expressed confidence that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals remained solid amid various concerns about the global economic situation. Thus, he was often puzzled by narratives claiming the economy was heading towards recession or crisis, as the data he monitored showed relatively strong conditions. “The economy is still good. So, when there are complaints or claims that the economy is in recession or heading towards crisis, I’m confused. I look at the data from all sides, and it seems everything is still strong,” Purbaya added. Purbaya also highlighted that consumer purchasing power was proceeding normally. He cited, for example, the public’s buying power when shopping for Eid necessities, such as clothing, which remained quite high despite some quieter spots. “We also went to the field to buy (clothes), and it’s still good. There are indeed empty places, but that’s normal. It means that when an economy is running, not everyone gets a share,” Purbaya concluded.
