Purbaya Candid on Coretax: Design Flaws Cause Taxpayer Confusion

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa admitted that many taxpayers are complaining about the Coretax system’s services, which are difficult to understand when reporting their annual tax returns. According to him, the problem with Coretax lies in the flawed design and software that still does not provide adequate support. “First, it’s a design flaw. With the new programme, why is it difficult to use? It turns out one of its weaknesses is that you know there’s a software or application service that connects Coretax with customers? It’s slower if you use that,” Purbaya revealed at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3/2026). Purbaya stated that the Directorate General of Taxes will continue to make improvements to Coretax, particularly regarding the speed of data processing in the system. Not only that, Purbaya admitted that intensive socialisation and education need to be carried out for taxpayers so they better understand the tax terms used in the Coretax system. “For the Coretax software itself, we will continue to improve it; there’s a team for that here. If the complaint is that taxpayers can’t understand it, it’s hard to comprehend, for example, the language (of Coretax), that can’t be fixed quickly, but we will improve it again,” he said. On the other hand, Purbaya believes that the current Coretax system is far better than in previous years. “But it’s not as bad as before, it’s already improved, we’ll keep fixing it,” he said.
