Purbaya Assures Minimal Inflationary Impact from Pertamax Price Hike, Cites Key Factor

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has assured that the increase in the price of the non-subsidised fuel Pertamax, effective Wednesday, 10 June 2026, will only have a minimal impact on inflation. According to him, this is because Pertamax is generally not used for goods transportation, meaning it will not significantly affect the prices of goods that could trigger a surge in inflation. “The impact of the Pertamax price increase on inflation should be relatively minimal, because Pertamax is usually not used for goods transportation,” Purbaya said at the DPR RI, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday. Regarding other impacts, namely consumers potentially switching from Pertamax to Pertalite, Purbaya felt this was not his domain as Finance Minister but rather the remit of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia. “Regarding that, ask Mr Bahlil,” he said. He noted that there should be a nozzle control system applied to fuel purchases, but again declined to discuss it further as it was not within the Ministry of Finance’s purview. “There should be another method, a nozzle control if I’m not mistaken. Ask Mr Bahlil, he knows more about it,” he stated. Previously, Pertamina Patra Niaga announced the price increase for Pertamax from Rp 12,300 to Rp 16,250 per litre, and for Pertamax Green 95 from Rp 12,900 to Rp 17,000 per litre. “The price adjustment for Pertamax and Pertamax Green was made after an evaluation process in accordance with the price formula set by the government,” said Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun in a statement on Wednesday. According to the company, the price adjustment was decided in coordination with the government as the regulator and was carried out according to a periodic evaluation mechanism considering global oil price developments and economic market prices.
