Purbaya Assures Indonesia Not in Energy Emergency, Here's the Explanation
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has assured that Indonesia’s energy supplies are not in a state of emergency. According to him, energy supplies are still available.
“An energy emergency would mean, for example, that supplies have stopped. That’s what I’m worried about. Not the price, but the lack of supply. Here, supplies are still available. So if it’s called an emergency, it’s not,” said Purbaya during the halal bihalal event on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
Nevertheless, Purbaya stated that the government must continue to prepare for the future if the war situation persists. He also hopes for a long-term solution to the risks faced by Indonesia’s energy supplies.
“But we must keep preparing for the future. If situations like this happen frequently, will we keep being anxious? Will you keep criticising me and saying the budget design is bad and so on?” he stressed.
As is known, Indonesia’s neighbouring country, the Philippines, has already declared an energy emergency. As a result, the country has implemented a work-from-home policy for its citizens for two days a week.
On this occasion, he also assured that Indonesia’s state budget (APBN) remains resilient against the shock of rising oil and gas prices amid the conflict in the Middle East. In fact, he confirmed that until the end of the year, the APBN can still withstand the increase in oil and gas prices.
“I won’t change the APBN or the existing subsidies to the point where prices might reach very high levels later. But at the current time, until the end of the year with the current prices, the APBN can still hold,” he stressed.
