Purbaya Assures Customs Functions Unchanged Despite PT DSI

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed that the role and functions of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) remain unchanged despite the existence of state-owned export company PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI). “It remains the same as usual (Customs functions). What’s the difference? DSI will handle reporting and trading, but Customs will still inspect imports and exports. So Customs’ functions are not disappearing,” Purbaya said when interviewed at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (26 May 2026). He also stated that there has been no directive from President Prabowo Subianto to reduce DJBC’s role following DSI’s establishment. In fact, Customs’ performance will continue to be strengthened moving forward. “But I have not received any instructions from the President on this matter. The President does not seem to have discussed it for the future. In fact, he said we should strengthen customs duties,” he said. Regarding the dismissal of the Customs Director General for incompetence, he stated that he is still waiting for political instructions from above. “We are still waiting for political instructions from above,” he stressed.
