The government will issue Chinese yuan-denominated bonds, known as panda bonds, on 23 July 2026. The government is targeting to raise US$1 billion from the panda bonds. “This is very important because China is a large market. Clearly, their market is very promising,” said Purbaya. He also stated that the bonds will be in high demand among investors from the Bamboo Curtain country. He said this is because the strongest rating agency in China, Lianhe Credit Rating, has given the debt a AAA/Stable rating. “In China, our debt rating is top-tier. Right at the top,” he stressed. Panda bonds are bond instruments issued by foreign entities in China’s domestic market using the yuan or renminbi currency.
