Purbaya and PBNU Chairman Discuss Investment and Government Support for Waste Processing Projects

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stated that the government is open to collaborating with the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) on waste processing projects that produce economically valuable goods. Following a meeting with PBNU Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, Purbaya noted that several products could be generated from waste processing, such as fertiliser, building materials, and Printed Circuit Boards (PCB). “We discussed several NU projects that the government might support because their objectives are good. One of them is processing waste into fertiliser to improve soil health, and into building materials or electrical circuit boards,” Purbaya said in Jakarta on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. He added that the project’s impact could be broadened with government support and cooperation with other countries. During the meeting, Gus Yahya consulted with the Finance Minister about investment opportunities for PBNU with various international entities. “We will study these investment ideas, and if they can proceed according to the existing pattern, the government will support what is initiated by NU,” Purbaya said. Gus Yahya stated that the discussion also covered potential collaboration on other national agendas. “We discussed many things, the essence of which is that NU has an organisational network that we can offer as a channel to deliver the government’s national agendas to the community,” Gus Yahya said. He revealed that collaboration between PBNU and the Indonesian Government has been ongoing since late 2022, with measurable results including programmes such as the Keluarga Maslahat movement. “We consulted with the Finance Minister regarding regulations, the channels we need to access, and the norms that must be followed in investment matters,” he added.
