Purbaya and Parliament to Form Task Force to Eradicate Illegal Online Lending and Online Gambling via P2SK Bill
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has confirmed that the government and the House of Representatives (DPR RI) have agreed to cooperate in handling and taking action against problematic online lending practices, illegal online lending, and online gambling. During a working meeting between the government and Commission XI of the DPR RI today, both parties agreed to push for the formation of a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Online Loans and Online Gambling.
This development will be discussed during the Working Committee for the Bill (Panja RUU) regarding the amendment of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (UU P2SK) Number 4 of 2023. “The government agrees with the view of the DPR that the President should form a task force tasked with preventing and handling unauthorised business activities within the financial sector,” said Purbaya at the DPR RI in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
He explained that the task force will consist of several elements, including various financial sector authorities, financial strategy reporting and analysis authorities, relevant Ministries/Agencies (K/L), and law enforcement agencies. The task force will not only target illegal financial service providers and legal entities that violate regulations, but will also target financial service providers suspected of engaging in online gambling activities. Furthermore, it will target authorised business activities that are suspected of violating regulations or consumer protection standards, as well as the use of financial technology innovations for activities suspected of being linked to gambling.
It is noted that an Online Gambling Task Force was previously established during President Joko Widodo’s administration through the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force in 2024, via Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 21 of 2024. However, to date, the performance and execution of duties by that task force are considered to have been sub-optimal.
