Purbaya and Industry Minister to Meet Tomorrow to Discuss Incentives for Electric Vehicles

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that his office will hold a meeting with Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita. The purpose is to refine the plan for providing incentives for battery-based electric vehicles or battery electric vehicles (BEVs) this year, including cross-ministerial synchronisation. “We are striving towards that (receiving incentives). This week I will meet him (Agus) if possible tomorrow, still checking the schedule,” Purbaya told reporters in Jakarta on Monday (4/5/2026). According to him, the momentum of growing demand for electric vehicles needs to be leveraged through policies that encourage public purchasing power. “It looks strong because it’s rising. Perhaps we will reconsider it later, how to provide incentives for electric cars in the near future. Let’s say, two weeks from now it will already enter the incentive system,” he said. In addition to electric cars, the government is also opening opportunities for incentives for two-wheeled electric vehicles as part of efforts to accelerate the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles. The Ministry of Finance is considering the fiscal impacts that arise, including the potential reduction in state revenue and the risk of widening the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) deficit.
