Purbaya Allocates Rp 60 Trillion for Sumatra Floods, But Not Fully Utilised
JAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has allocated a budget of Rp 60 trillion for post-disaster handling in Sumatra, but not all of the funds were used this year.
“The finance ministry just asked if the budget was ready. I said yes. From the start of the year, even since last year’s end, we had already prepared Rp 60 trillion, but it was used less this year as it was split across infrastructure projects. So we’re ready,” Purbaya said after a closed-door meeting on the Sumatra disaster situation at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (25/5/2026).
He confirmed that disaster management funds would be released once submitted documentation is complete.
“The Finance Ministry’s approach has now changed. Previously, applications were submitted and then ignored. I told the Director General of Budget that for any disaster-related budget requests, we follow up daily and call the ministries or agencies if documents are missing,” he explained.
“These measures are expected to speed up the disbursement of national disaster funds. There’s no need to worry—the budget is available,” Purbaya added.
The DPR’s Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force and the Government’s Sumatra Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force held a coordination meeting on Monday (25/5/2026).
The meeting was opened by DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the Nusantara IV Building of the DPR complex in Senayan.
Dasco stated the coordination meeting was held behind closed doors.
