Purbaya Admits Difficulty Sleeping After Reshuffle

Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa admitted he had difficulty sleeping after learning he had been removed as Finance Minister and replaced by Suahasil Nazara. He made the disclosure after attending the handover ceremony at the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

Purbaya said the abrupt change of position had kept him thinking about various matters late into the night.

“Last night I still couldn’t sleep, I was still rather annoyed, to be honest. But now I’m feeling much better,” Purbaya told journalists at the Ministry of Finance office in Central Jakarta.

When pressed further on whether he genuinely felt upset at being removed from the Finance Minister’s post, Purbaya was blunt.

“Well, I’m only human, not a robot,” he asserted.

Nevertheless, the former Chairman of the LPS Board of Commissioners said he now feels far calmer. He is even confident he will be able to rest comfortably once the entire leadership transition process at the Ministry of Finance is complete.

“Tonight I’ll be able to sleep peacefully. Last night I was still mulling things over, so it was a bit hard to sleep, but I’m sure tomorrow I’ll be calm and at ease,” he said.

Purbaya officially handed over the leadership baton of the Ministry of Finance to Suahasil Nazara, who was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on Monday (14/9/2026).

Amid the transition, Purbaya’s son, Yudo Achilles Sadewa, attracted attention through a social media post. In a video uploaded and quoted by several media outlets, Yudo said his father could now sleep soundly again after no longer serving as the nation’s treasurer.

“Guys, at last my dad can sleep properly, guys,” Yudo said.

Yudo also joked that his father would return to the world of trading, which he had pursued long before entering government.

“Back to being a trader, guys, no longer a minister, guys. Back to being a trader,” he said.

Previously, Purbaya had also shared his plans after stepping down as Finance Minister. Beyond wanting to spend more time at home and fishing, he admitted that trading was a skill he had honed for a long time.
