Purbaya Admits Coretax is Problematic, DPR Warns Against Experimenting with Tax System

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Chairman of DPR Commission XI, Mukhamad Misbakhun, has urged the government not to downplay the various issues in implementing the Coretax tax administration system.

According to him, the problems that have emerged are not merely a matter of technological transition, but indications of fundamental weaknesses in the planning and execution of tax reform.

“Do not let the country appear to be experimenting with its own tax system. This concerns Indonesia’s fiscal credibility,” Misbakhun stated on Friday (27/3/2026).

He highlighted complaints regarding the user-unfriendly design, unsynchronised business processes, and the system’s suboptimal readiness.

“If complaints have arisen from the start about the user-unfriendly design, unsynchronised business processes, and suboptimal system readiness, then the government must not be defensive. This must be thoroughly dissected,” he emphasised.

He warned that if the Coretax issues are not resolved structurally soon, state revenue performance could be disrupted.

“We must not jeopardise the tax ratio just because the administration system is not ready,” he said.

Misbakhun pressed the government to take corrective steps, starting from independent technology audits and project governance, to evaluations of the system developer’s contracts.

He also called for strengthening digital human resource capacity at the Directorate General of Taxes.

“If something needs to be corrected, it must be corrected fundamentally,” he stated.

Previously, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa admitted that the Coretax system still faces various problems, including in the initial design phase.

“First, wrong design. Then I suspect Coretax was made convoluted and there might be room for business. We will fix it later,” Purbaya said.

“Why is it difficult to use? One of its weaknesses is in the application linking service which is actually slower,” he added.
