Purabaya Terminal Deploys Over 1,000 Buses to Handle Lebaran Exodus
The management of Purabaya Terminal in Sidoarjo Regency has mobilised more than 1,000 bus fleets to anticipate the surge in passenger volume during the 2026 Lebaran holiday exodus. The Ministry of Transportation has coordinated with each bus operator (PO) to deploy reserve bus fleets should there be a significant spike in passenger numbers at any time.
During each Idul Fitri holiday period, at least 1,000 to 1,200 bus fleets are deployed to operate at Purabaya Terminal in Sidoarjo. This is because the terminal connects not only regions within East Java, but also inter-provincial and inter-island routes.
“We have coordinated with bus operators to provide reserve bus fleets. Reserve fleets are necessary so that if there is a significant surge in passengers at any time, they can be immediately deployed,” said Sarah, the public relations officer of Purabaya Terminal, on Wednesday (11 March).
In addition to preparing bus fleets, the Ministry of Transportation, as the terminal manager, has also conducted ramp check operations. Ramp check involves comprehensive inspections, not only of driver licences and route permits, but also of bus roadworthiness. Health checks of bus crew members are also conducted randomly. All these inspections are carried out to provide better passenger service and reduce the number of road incidents.
