PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur has once again achieved a milestone in sustainability by securing the PROPER Gold Award for 2025. The award was presented by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. This marks the ninth consecutive achievement for the company.

The award was handed over directly by Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq to Pupuk Kaltim’s President Director Gusrizal at an event held at Sasono Langen Budoyo, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/4).

Gusrizal stated that this accomplishment reflects the company’s commitment to the beyond compliance principle, not only meeting regulations but also introducing innovations that benefit the environment and society.

“This achievement demonstrates our commitment to going beyond regulatory compliance by delivering innovations that provide tangible benefits,” he said.

Throughout 2025, Pupuk Kaltim implemented various innovations in social, environmental, and carbon economy applications. One of them is the PKT BISA programme, which integrates agriculture, livestock, and renewable energy sectors through the utilisation of waste to produce biogas.

The company also runs the TAMASYA programme as an effort to empower the community, particularly in improving child care quality and family welfare in the areas around its operational regions.

On the environmental side, Pupuk Kaltim developed the Road to Zero Waste concept to promote sustainable waste management and reduce reliance on final disposal sites.

Commitment to emission reduction is further strengthened through the implementation of Carbon Economic Value (NEK), including the construction of Solar Power Plants (PLTS). To date, the company has operated PLTS with a total capacity of 3.8 megawatts and plans to add 2.3 megawatts in 2026.

In addition, Pupuk Kaltim has improved operational efficiency through various initiatives, including the revamping of ammonia plants and the development of downstream products such as soda ash.

Gusrizal emphasised that going forward, the company will continue to strengthen sustainability innovations to support sustainable development in Indonesia.

PROPER is a programme assessing company performance in environmental management. PROPER Gold is the highest ranking given to companies with excellent performance in environmental aspects, compliance, and community empowerment. This achievement validates the company’s commitment to maintaining environmental quality in operational areas free from pollution.

Five companies in the Pupuk Indonesia Group have received PROPER Gold. Those companies are Petrokimia Gresik, Pupuk Kujang, Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, Pupuk Iskandar Muda, and Pupuk Sriwidjaja.

Irwan immediately affirmed the aim to secure PROPER Gold again next year.

Based on the 2024 Green PROPER document assessment, there are 189 companies that meet the threshold for the gold ranking value.
