Pupuk Kaltim Promotes Operational Efficiency and Business Digitalisation Through Green and Smart Port
PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing port governance oriented towards environmental sustainability, digital transformation, and operational safety. This commitment was recognised with the Green and Smart Port - ASRI 2026 award, achieving the Best 5-Star predicate from the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs. The award was presented by Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi to Pupuk Kaltim President Director Rafli Yandra, witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, at the peak of the Green and Smart Port Initiatives ASRI 2026 event at Pier C of the Petrokimia Gresik Port in East Java on Wednesday, 15 July.
Pupuk Kaltim President Director Rafli Yandra stated that this appreciation is proof of the transformation the company has undergone in recent years, resulting in port governance that is not only operationally efficient but also responsible towards the environment and society. "We believe that industrial competitiveness is determined not only by production capacity but also by the ability to manage operations responsibly through Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles," Rafli said.
According to Rafli, the development of the Pupuk Kaltim Special Terminal port has referred to the Green Port concept since 2018, with various strategic steps to support the energy transition while reducing the environmental impact of port operational activities. One of the main focuses is the utilisation of renewable energy in the special terminal area as well as the development of a clean energy ecosystem within the company area. Pupuk Kaltim has also strengthened environmental management through conservation programmes and biodiversity preservation in its Green Port implementation.
Currently, Pupuk Kaltim is developing a sambar deer conservation area, running a coral reef preservation programme, and maintaining the existence of the endemic Black Orchid flora, which has become an icon of the company’s conservation efforts. In addition, the port operational area is supported by green open spaces as part of the effort to create a healthier working environment while supporting ecosystem balance around the industrial area. "This initiative is also part of the support for President Prabowo Subianto’s directive programme, through the Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful (ASRI) Movement, in strengthening national logistics competitiveness, particularly in the food sector," Rafli concluded.
