Pupuk Kaltim Focuses on Creating Sustainable Impact by Applying ESG Principles
PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) is expanding the implementation of programmes based on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles through various initiatives in economic empowerment, health, education, and environmental management. These programmes are carried out to create a sustainable social impact for the community.
Pupuk Kaltim Corporate Secretary Anggono Wijaya stated that the company’s Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programmes are developed with a long-term approach tailored to community needs.
“The programme initiatives are designed with a long-term approach and based on community needs. The aim is not only to solve existing social problems but also to create self-reliance and sustainability for the beneficiaries,” Anggono said in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
One of the programmes run by the company is the strengthening of MSMEs through the Bina Sukses Bontang Cooperative. This programme is focused on expanding marketing access, promotion, and partnerships for assisted business actors.
By 2025, the production capacity of assisted MSMEs was recorded at 468 CBM per container, and their products have been marketed to 12 countries. In addition, the company also runs the PKT Serasi Programme, which encourages the development of economically value-added processed products by women’s groups.
According to Anggono, strengthening the role of women is one of the company’s focuses in supporting community economic empowerment. Pupuk Kaltim also developed the Cendawan Juara Programme, which empowers housewives, the elderly, and retirees through mushroom cultivation as a source of additional income.
In the health sector, the company runs the PEGALDAS Programme, which focuses on stunting prevention and management in cooperation with the Bontang City Health Office. The programme is intended to support the improvement of public health quality from an early age.
Meanwhile, in the education sector, Pupuk Kaltim distributes scholarships through the Pupuk Kaltim Peduli Pendidikan (PKTPP) Programme for high-achieving students from underprivileged families.
The company also encourages employee involvement in social activities through the Employee Volunteering Initiation (Evolution) programme. This programme serves as a platform for employees to be directly involved in various community empowerment activities.
This series of programmes led Pupuk Kaltim to win three awards at the TOP CSR Awards 2026, namely TOP CSR Awards 2026 Star 5, Platinum Medal, and TOP Leader on CSR Commitment 2026.
Anggono stated that these awards reflect the company’s consistency in implementing measurable TJSL programmes that are aligned with sustainability principles.
“These awards are proof of the company’s commitment to implementing Social and Environmental Responsibility programmes consistently and measurably, as well as being part of Pupuk Kaltim’s efforts to maintain long-term business sustainability,” Anggono said.
