Pupuk Kaltim Ensures Innovation Drives Core Business Growth
Jakarta – PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) has reaffirmed its commitment to driving innovation as the principal catalyst for company growth. This commitment forms part of a broader transformation strategy designed to strengthen competitive advantage and ensure business sustainability amid increasingly complex industry dynamics.
This commitment has been recognised with the awarding of the BUMN Award 2026 in the Corporation Category, sub-category Best Business Innovation 1, with Platinum distinction. The award, presented by BUMN Track, was received by Pupuk Kaltim’s Director of Finance and Administration, Qomaruzzaman, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
“This affirmation demonstrates that Pupuk Kaltim’s innovations have delivered tangible benefits to company performance improvement, whilst also supporting the transformation of state-owned enterprises towards increasingly adaptive, competitive, and sustainable organisations,” said Qomaruzzaman.
He outlined several innovations evident in enhanced operational efficiency, strengthened business process digitalisation, and product development and business diversification based on the utilisation of gas as primary raw material. This strategy forms part of Pupuk Kaltim’s vision to evolve into an integrated and globally competitive agro-solutions, chemicals, and petrochemical company.
According to Qomaruzzaman, the various innovation initiatives implemented by Pupuk Kaltim have successfully driven significant improvements in operational performance and business growth. This is evident through factory performance optimisation, enhanced reliability of production facilities, and the implementation of increasingly modern and integrated monitoring and operational management systems.
One such innovation is Synovation, which focuses on enhancing the operational performance of the Kaltim-5 Ammonia Plant. Through a breakthrough engineering approach that integrates critical equipment improvements and continuous optimisation of the ammonia synloop control system.
On the digital transformation front, Pupuk Kaltim has developed various integrated digitalisation systems including iPerform, iPortlog, and iSmart, which function to monitor operational performance in real-time and enhance logistical and production efficiency.
“Digital transformation is being developed by Pupuk Kaltim in an integrated manner to enhance operational efficiency, logistics management, and human resource productivity,” stated Qomaruzzaman.
Additionally, Pupuk Kaltim is pursuing several strategic projects to expand its business portfolio. One such project is the construction of a soda ash plant scheduled to commence operations in 2028, with production capacity reaching 300,000 tonnes per annum, alongside ammonium chloride production at equivalent capacity.
