Pupuk Indonesia Relies on '7T' Principle to Support Food Self-Sufficiency Programme

PT Pupuk Indonesia, as an extension of the government, has transformed and committed to ensuring farmers obtain fertiliser with the right quantity, right dosage, right time, right place, right quality, right price, and right target (7T). Pupuk Indonesia’s Supply Chain Director, Robby Setiabudi Madjid, stated that the 7T principle is crucial because proper and balanced fertilisation contributes more than 60% to agricultural productivity. He explained that under Presidential Regulation No. 6/2025 and Presidential Regulation No. 113/2025, the company is responsible for distributing subsidised fertiliser to over 26,000 handover points across Indonesia. The impact has been significant for farmers, with fertiliser already distributed and redeemable since 1 January 2026. Furthermore, fertiliser stocks are no longer concentrated in factories but are now spread across kiosks throughout the country. Madjid noted that the policy strongly favours farmers and fishermen, as the fisheries sector is now also receiving subsidised fertiliser. This transformation has accelerated distribution, with fertiliser uptake rising 13% year-on-year in 2025, leading to an increase in corn and rice production of around 11-13%. As of 28 June 2026, distribution had reached 30% compared to the previous year. Madjid concluded that while many parties contribute to achieving rice self-sufficiency, fertiliser is crucial as it accounts for 62% of agricultural production input. He added that with the right policies, Indonesia could become a food barn in the near future. To date, 4.8 million tonnes of Pupuk Indonesia fertiliser have been absorbed by farmers, though weather factors such as El Niño remain a challenge that needs to be anticipated to meet future absorption targets.
