Pupuk Indonesia Ensures Subsidised Fertiliser Stocks in East Java Are Secure

Lamongan, East Java (ANTARA) - PT Pupuk Indonesia has assured that the availability of subsidised fertiliser in East Java is secure to support agricultural productivity and the national food self-sufficiency target. CEO of Regional 3 PT Pupuk Indonesia, Eko Suroso, stated during a warehouse inspection in Lamongan on Wednesday that Lamongan is a priority area because of its role as a food barn in East Java, a province that is a major contributor to national food production. He explained that the company has begun building buffer stocks in preparation for the next planting season to ensure smooth distribution to farmers. The subsidised fertiliser allocation for East Java reaches approximately two million tonnes, while the allocation for Lamongan Regency for the agricultural and fisheries sectors in 2026 is 195,725 tonnes. As of early July 2026, overall distribution realisation has reached around 56 per cent, and the company continues to monitor and optimise uptake according to farmers’ needs. Eko added that PT Pupuk Indonesia is also coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and other stakeholders to simplify the subsidised fertiliser distribution mechanism. He expressed hope that guaranteed supply and easier access would boost agricultural productivity in Lamongan, thereby accelerating the achievement of national food self-sufficiency. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Lamongan is one of the rice production centres in East Java, with a harvest area of 153.38 thousand hectares in 2025, producing around 1.09 million tonnes of dry harvested grain, equivalent to 522.52 thousand tonnes of rice for consumption. This achievement represents a 16.6 per cent increase from the previous year, making fertiliser availability a crucial factor in maintaining productivity and supporting national food self-sufficiency targets. The local Food Security and Agriculture Office recorded that the harvested area for the first planting season of 2026 has reached 36,818 hectares. The local government is also targeting an additional planting area of 233 thousand hectares in 2026 to maintain Lamongan’s position as a national food barn.
