President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Rahmad Pribadi, has opened up possibilities for exports to countries experiencing fertiliser shortages due to the Iran-Israel war. “We have the capacity to export, so we will allocate to friendly countries,” Rahmad said at the DPR Complex in Senayan on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.

Rahmad emphasised that before deciding to export, Pupuk Indonesia would prioritise domestic needs.

“Our estimate for urea needs is around 6.3 million tonnes. Our production is nearly 8 million, so we have an excess that can be exported.”

He did not specify the friendly countries targeted for exports. However, he stated that Pupuk Indonesia has previously sold fertiliser to Australia, India, and countries in the Southeast Asian region. “We will continue to do that. The difference today is that they may be facing difficulties,” Rahmad said.

The difficulties referred to by Rahmad relate to the impact of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which serves as a distribution route for 30% of global fertiliser needs. Due to the closure of the strait, Rahmad said around 10 million tonnes of urea fertiliser have not yet been distributed.
