Jakarta (ANTARA) - The President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Rahmad Pribadi, has stated that Indonesia has an opportunity to maintain regional food security stability amid global geopolitical tensions.

“I want to convey to all of us that we often think that when there is global turmoil, Indonesia is considered vulnerable. But I want to emphasise that in the context of fertiliser, it is the opposite. Indonesia actually presents an opportunity, having the chance to maintain regional food security stability. Because regional food security is important,” Rahmad said in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, regional and national food security are not conflicting matters but rather mutually supportive.

“Therefore, Indonesia is asked to support the agricultural sector in countries that are important sources of agricultural products. For example, Australia, from which we obtain wheat and various other types of agricultural products. India, from which we buy a lot of peanuts and various other items,” he said.

He conveyed that the government has implemented the right strategy. Because fertiliser is a critical agro input. Without fertiliser, agricultural productivity cannot be discussed.

For information, PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has ensured the readiness of supply and production to support the plan to export 250,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser to Australia through a government-to-government (G2G) scheme amid global supply chain disruptions due to the war in the Middle East.

Pupuk Indonesia President Director Rahmad Pribadi said the company actually has a urea production capacity of 9.4 million tonnes per year.

However, he said his company predicts the realisation of production to reach 7.8 million tonnes in 2026, with domestic needs projected at 6.3 million tonnes, thus ensuring that national urea fertiliser stocks are safe to meet the needs of farmers throughout Indonesia.

Rahmad said the smooth production process is supported by the availability of the main raw material from domestic sources, namely natural gas, with adequate volume and relatively stable prices.

He assessed that this condition demonstrates the resilience of the national fertiliser industry in maintaining production sustainability, while also opening up export opportunities without disrupting domestic supplies.
