KPUD to destroy unused voter cards

YOGYAKARTA: The Yogyakarta Municipal General Elections Commission (KPUD) will destroy 20,138 unused voter registration cards left over from the April 5 legislative elections in a bid to prevent their possible misuse during the upcoming July 5 presidential election.

Rahmat Muhadjir Nugroho, the head of the information section of the KPUD, said that the voter registration cards were not claimed by the voters who were eligible to receive them for various reasons, including the fact that they were not at home when KPU officials paid a call.

"If these cards are not destroyed, we are afraid that they could be misused by irresponsible persons during the upcoming presidential election," he said. -- JP
