Puncakjaya's donation
JAKARTA (JP): PT Puncakjaya Power, which owns and operates a 194 megawatt electric system supporting PT Freeport Indonesia's mining operation in Irian Jaya, has donated US$15,000 to Indokids, a nonprofit organization that gives Indonesian children an opportunity to a U.S. education.
"By contributing to the education of Irianese children, we are also contributing to the country's future economic growth and well-being," company project administrator Debbie Erna said in a statement over the weekend.
Indokids was established in 1987 by Mary Jane Lowman, to provide placement and financial assistance to bright, young Indonesians in U.S. high schools and colleges.
In the past nine years, 65 Indonesian children have participated in the program. (bnt)
