The West Java provincial government has decided to temporarily suspend minibus (angkot) operations on the Puncak route in Bogor Regency for five days during the 2026 Eid holiday.

The policy has been implemented as a measure to reduce traffic congestion frequently occurring in the tourist area during holiday periods.

As compensation, the local government has prepared assistance of Rp1 million for each minibus driver and owner not operating during the suspension period.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi symbolically presented the compensation assistance to minibus drivers at the Bogor Police Regional Command headquarters in Cibinong, Bogor Regency, on Sunday (15 March).

He explained that the decision to temporarily suspend minibus operations was made to reduce vehicle congestion that typically increases on the Puncak route during each Eid holiday period.

“Here, nearly 2,000 minibus drivers from around 700 fleets are receiving compensation for not operating temporarily during the Eid holiday, so that congestion at Puncak can be reduced,” said Dedi.

According to him, the policy is part of the local government’s strategy to anticipate the surge in public mobility heading towards the Puncak area during the holiday season.

Meanwhile, Head of the West Java Provincial Transportation Agency Dhani Gumelar stated that the programme targets 2,068 minibus drivers serving routes in the Puncak area.

The minibus operational suspension will be implemented on 22, 23, 24, 27, and 28 March during this year’s Eid holiday period.

“The number of drivers receiving compensation is 2,068 people. The operational suspension is implemented on those five days based on survey results and forecasts because public activity heading towards Puncak usually increases,” he said.

Dhani explained that compensation is provided at Rp200,000 per day to each driver. Thus, the total assistance received over five days amounts to Rp1 million. The funds have been transferred directly to recipients’ accounts through Bank BJB.

This temporary suspension programme applies only to minibuses serving routes towards the Puncak area. The government continues to consider the transportation needs of residents in other areas who still depend on public transport.

On another note, Head of Traffic Division of Bogor Regency Transportation Agency Dadang Kosasih stated that the minibuses involved in this programme come from three main routes in the Puncak area.

Those routes include minibus route 02C from Pasir Muncang to Ciawi with 73 vehicles, minibus route 02B from Sukasari to Cibedug with 175 vehicles, and minibus route 02A from Sukasari to Cisarua with 530 vehicles.

Dadang emphasised that all minibuses on those routes must comply with the operational suspension policy on the designated dates.

“They must follow the rules. On 22, 23, 24, 27, and 28, there will be absolutely no minibuses operating on those three routes,” he said.

To ensure the policy is implemented effectively, officers from the Transportation Agency along with police will conduct field monitoring. Minibuses found still operating will face sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations.

“First we issue warnings, but if they continue operating we will take action with ticketing together with the police,” he said.

In addition to this policy, the local government has also prepared various supporting measures to anticipate the surge in homecoming traffic and tourism during the Eid holiday in Bogor Regency.

Bogor Regency Transportation Agency has deployed approximately 300 personnel, including 100 officers specially stationed in the Puncak area. They will serve in two shifts to manage traffic and ensure smooth vehicle flow during the Eid holiday period.
