Pulogadung Road Collapses for 5 Months, Permanent Repair to Be Accelerated This Year
The concrete of Jalan Cinta in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, has cracked and split due to land subsidence. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out permanent repairs on the collapsed road this year.
“This condition requires more comprehensive handling, so preparations are currently underway for the permanent repair of the embankment, which will be carried out this year by the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency,” said Ericson Indra Pulungan, Head of the Flood Control and Drainage Division at the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency, to reporters on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
Ericson stated that his team is currently preparing for the permanent repair of the embankment. He noted that cracks in the Kali Sunter embankment caused the road surface to collapse. “The phenomenon of cracking in the Kali Sunter embankment caused the road to collapse in the Pulogadung area, East Jakarta,” Ericson said.
Ericson explained that the DKI Water Resources Agency will carry out repairs in the form of embankment reinforcement. However, given that the management of Kali Sunter falls under the authority of the Ministry of Public Works through the Ciliwung Cisadane River Basin Centre (BBWSCC), his agency is also coordinating with the relevant institutions.
“The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, through the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency, will carry out embankment reinforcement repairs and coordinate with the Ministry of Public Works via the BBWSCC, which has authority over the management of Kali Sunter,” he said.
Previously, the collapsed road had drawn complaints from residents. They said the road had been damaged for months. “Initially, the subsidence was only slight, but every day it kept shifting and widening. This road has been damaged for five months, but there has been no action yet,” said Warjono, Head of RT 11 RW 03 Pulo Gadung, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday (7/7).
Residents are concerned that the worsening damage could lead to traffic accidents and even fatalities if not addressed immediately. Warjono mentioned that the subsidence, which initially occurred only at certain points, has now spread to nearly 100 metres in length.
To avoid the risk of accidents, residents and local administrators have closed the road to four-wheeled vehicles or cars. Currently, only motorcycles are allowed to pass, using an alternating system because the remaining road width is only about one metre.
Furthermore, the collapsed road is one of the alternative routes used daily by the community as a main access point to residential areas and various economic activities.
