Pulogadung Fire Survivors Receive Aid
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Survivors of a fire on Jalan Palad, RT 02/03, Pulogadung Village, have received aid from the East Jakarta Social Services Sub-agency (Sudinsos) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
“We hope this assistance can ease the burden of the fire survivors in Pulogadung,” said Head of East Jakarta Social Services, Agata Bayu Putra, in Jakarta on Sunday.
Agata stated that his party provided seven items of aid consisting of 11 bags of 5-kilogramme rice, 11 boxes of instant noodles, 11 bags of 2-litre cooking oil, 11 bottles of sweet soy sauce, 22 packs of biscuits, 22 cans of sardines, and 11 goodie bags.
Meanwhile, Chairman of PMI East Jakarta, Bambang Pangestu Aldriyan, revealed that his team distributed 11 food packages, 11 hygiene kits, 11 family kits, 11 mats, four school kits, 50 boxes of ready-to-eat meals, and five boxes of 1.5-litre mineral water.
“Our presence is part of the organisation’s commitment to providing humanitarian services to residents facing emergency situations,” said Bambang.
Similarly, Pulogadung Village Head Ariyanto said that all aid had been distributed to the fire survivors who are currently taking shelter at the RW 03 secretariat, not far from the scene.
“A total of 11 families or 28 people, including four school-age children, were affected and are currently sheltering at the RW secretariat near the location,” he said.
The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Sudin Gulkarmat) stated that the fire occurred around 3 a.m. local time. The flames engulfed a house, a grocery shop, and a food stall in a densely populated residential area.
The incident resulted in the deaths of three residents and left one person injured.
Although the exact cause of the fire is not yet known, preliminary suspicions suggest the fire originated from an electrical short circuit at a socket in a resident’s house. The blaze then quickly grew and spread to surrounding buildings.
After receiving the fire report, firefighters deployed the first unit, which arrived at the scene at 3.04 a.m. local time.
A total of 14 fire engines with 60 personnel were deployed to the location.
Officers then worked to extinguish the fire while localising the fire point to prevent it from spreading to other houses in the densely populated settlement.
After nearly two hours of handling, the fire was fully extinguished around 5 a.m. local time, while the process of recording losses and the victims’ identities was still being carried out by relevant officers.
