Pulau Kelapa Dua Sub-district Requests Increased SWRO Drinking Water Capacity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Kelapa Dua sub-district has requested that the capacity of PAM Jaya’s Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) drinking water supply system on Pulau Kelapa Dua, North Seribu Islands District, be increased to meet the growing needs of residents.
“The operating capacity of the Pulau Kelapa Dua SWRO needs to be increased. Currently, production capacity stands at around 0.25 litres per second (LPS) and it is hoped it can be raised to 1 LPS,” said Pulau Kelapa Sub-district Head Muhammad Adriansyah in Jakarta on Friday.
Adriansyah explained that the operating system of the Pulau Kelapa Dua SWRO needs to be upgraded from 0.25 litres per second to 1 litre per second so that production and services can run smoothly without forcing the machines to operate continuously.
He said the PAM Jaya SWRO on Pulau Kelapa Dua, Pulau Kelapa Sub-district, North Seribu Islands District, has resumed operations and has been serving residents’ clean water needs since Friday (14 August).
Previously, the clean water supply system on the island had experienced disruptions, hampering clean water production.
The Pulau Kelapa Dua SWRO suffered technical problems that prevented water production from running normally.
The disruptions included a membrane pressure reader sensor that could not be read, causing the high-pressure machine to switch on and off repeatedly.
Meanwhile, the water produced had at times emitted an odour due to problems with the sludge pump and the availability of treatment chemicals.
“The return to normal SWRO operations is good news for the community because the clean water supply can be met again,” he said.
Adriansyah expressed hope that officers would carry out routine inspections and maintenance of the machines. He said this step is considered important to prevent similar damage or more severe disruptions in the future.
“We hope that similar or more severe damage will not occur again. I would like to express my thanks,” he said.
Meanwhile, PAM Jaya Pulau Kelapa Dua SWRO Coordinator Andi Ardiansyah said the facility has resumed operations and is serving the community’s clean water needs.
“Alhamdulillah, it is running and has been serving the residents of Pulau Kelapa Dua since 14 August,” said Andi.
A Pulau Kelapa Dua resident, Nita (42), expressed hope that clean water services would be consistent and that water quality would be maintained.
“We hope clean water will continue to be available and that disruptions like before will not happen again,” she said.
