Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Pulau Karya Public Cemetery (TPU) in Pulau Panggang Sub-district, North Thousand Islands District, Thousand Islands Regency, has been crowded with pilgrims ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

"Grave pilgrimage activities have become a routine tradition for the community ahead of Ramadan, with numbers continuing to increase, particularly from morning until late afternoon," said Irfan Damanhuri, Head of the Parks and Urban Forestry Section at UKT 2 Thousand Islands, in Jakarta on Tuesday.

His office has carried out various preparations to ensure the comfort of pilgrims.

Officers have already cleaned the cemetery grounds, trimmed the grass and ensured that access roads within the Pulau Karya cemetery are in good condition so that pilgrims feel comfortable and safe during their visits.

According to him, the increase in pilgrim numbers typically occurs in the week leading up to Ramadan. For this reason, officers have also been placed on standby to assist when needed.

"We also urge pilgrims to maintain the cleanliness of the cemetery grounds and not to litter," he said.

Meanwhile, Lukman, an Individual Service Provider (PJLP) officer at UKT, said that routine maintenance had been carried out since the beginning of the month.

"Every day we clean the cemetery grounds, sweep dry leaves and tidy up the plants so they look more orderly. It is indeed usually busier ahead of Ramadan," he said.
