REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG — The Persatuan Umat Islam (PUI) fully supports the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in proposing a ban on vapes in the draft Narcotics and Psychotropics Bill. They assess that the potential for vapes to be misused by irresponsible parties is very high.

PUI advisor Prof Achmad Tjachja Nugraha stated that vaping has become an issue concerning the future of the younger generation. “This is no longer just a lifestyle matter, but a serious issue affecting the health and continuity of the nation’s generation,” he said in a written statement quoted on Friday (10/4/2026).

Achmad continued that the warning from BNN should serve as an alarm for all parties. He reminded that once a product begins to potentially serve as an entry point for narcotics, preventive measures cannot be delayed any longer. “What BNN has conveyed shows that this issue has reached a worrying stage,” he said.

He stated that this problem cannot be addressed partially. Prof Achmad encouraged synergy between the government, religious figures, educational institutions, and society to strengthen education, regulation, and supervision.

“Protecting health is a form of responsibility and gratitude. Therefore, anything that has the potential to cause harm must be prevented from the outset,” he said.

He warned that if not controlled now, vapes risk developing into a new health crisis, thereby threatening the quality of one generation of the nation in the future.
