Public Works Ministry Targets P3TGAI Programme in 12,000 Locations by 2027

The Ministry of Public Works (PU), through its Directorate General of Water Resources, is programming the Community-Based Infrastructure (IBM) initiative under the Accelerated Improvement of Irrigation Water Management (P3TGAI) programme in 12,000 locations for the 2027 fiscal year. The move is intended to support national food self-sufficiency. “In accordance with the results of the Minister of Public Works’ working meeting on 11 June 2026, we are optimising the existing ‘pure rupiah’ budget by relaxing or extending the implementation of existing multi-year contracts to focus on programming IBM P3TGAI in 12,000 locations,” said Director General of Water Resources Arnold AP Ritiauw during a Hearing Meeting with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday. He noted that the Directorate General of Water Resources recognises that IBM is an infrastructure programme that genuinely impacts community welfare, particularly for farmers. P3TGAI is a labour-intensive activity aimed at improving agricultural irrigation services through the rehabilitation, enhancement, and construction of irrigation networks in a participatory manner, involving farming communities as the main actors. The infrastructure built is expected to increase the reliability of irrigation water services, including during the dry season, thereby supporting increased agricultural production and farming efficiency. Through the 2026 P3TGAI, the Ministry of Public Works is not only building irrigation infrastructure but also strengthening collaboration with communities to maintain food security starting from the village level. “This programme is also directly aligned with the National Priority Work Programme for food self-sufficiency,” Arnold AP Ritiauw stated.
