Public Works Ministry Permanently Restores Three Bridges Following Aceh Disaster
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works (PU), through the Aceh National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN), has permanently restored three bridges previously damaged by hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh.
“The Ministry of Public Works continues to strive to ensure that road and bridge access is handled as quickly as possible,” stated the Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, in a statement received in Banda Aceh on Wednesday.
The three restored infrastructures include the Krueng Meureudu bridge in Pidie Jaya Regency, the Kruments Tingkeum Kuta Blang bridge in Bireuen Regency, and the Ulee Langa bridge in North Aceh Regency.
The completion of these bridge constructions further strengthens connectivity along the eastern Aceh corridor, specifically the Banda Aceh–Medan national road in North Sumatra.
Minister Dody noted that managing bridge infrastructure in disaster-affected areas is a vital part of ensuring community connectivity remains maintained. According to Dody, open access is required so that community economic activities, logistics distribution, and post-disaster recovery processes can proceed effectively.
“Roads and bridges are the lifeblood of community movement and logistics distribution,” Dody Hanggodo emphasised.
Based on data from BPJN Aceh as of 14 September 2026, two bridges have been completed and are functional: the 61.8-metre Krueng Meureudu bridge on the Sigli–Bireuen city border segment, and the 16.6-metre Ulee Langa bridge on the Lhokseumawe/North Aceh–Peureulak city border segment.
Meanwhile, the 149-metre Krueng Tingkeum bridge, which involves a larger scale of work, has reached a progress rate of 99.14 per cent. The remaining work includes the installation of andesite for pedestrians, paving, and road markings. It is targeted to be fully functional by 20 September 2026.
Dody added that the accelerated completion of these bridges demonstrates a commitment to restoring vital infrastructure impacted by disasters. The Ministry of Public Works also ensures that handling continues until the infrastructure is fully functional and can be utilised optimally by the community, as part of the accelerated post-disaster recovery in Aceh.
