Public Works Ministry: East Java People's School 1 Prepared as Integrated Educational Zone
The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has revealed that the East Java People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat Jatim) 1 in Surabaya is being prepared as an integrated educational zone. This complex will integrate primary, junior high, and senior high school levels within a single, modern, and inclusive learning environment.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the construction of the People’s School is part of the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and serves as a long-term investment in national human resource development. “The construction of this People’s School is a tangible form of the government’s commitment to building superior human resources. The Ministry of PU ensures that these educational facilities are built quickly and with high quality so they can be immediately utilised by the community and support the equitable distribution of educational access,” Dody said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
The East Java People’s School 1 zone is designed not only as a place for learning but also as an integrated educational environment that supports character building, skill development, and the improvement of students’ quality of life. Built on 6.61 hectares of land with a total building area of 27,766.77 m2, the area will be equipped with various educational facilities, residential quarters, and supporting infrastructure designed for comprehensive human resource development.
Facilities include buildings for primary, junior high, and senior high schools, male and female student dormitories, teacher residences, a multipurpose hall, a mosque and places of worship, a canteen, sports fields, open spaces, and various other integrated supporting facilities.
As of 5 June 2026, the physical construction progress of East Java People’s School 1 has reached 77.68 per cent, with a completion target of 20 June 2026. This timeline ensures the facilities are ready to support the 2026/2027 academic year.
To meet this target, the Ministry of PU, alongside service provider PT Waskita Karya (Persero)–CAG KSO, is implementing various acceleration measures on-site. Strategies include the use of the half-slab method for second-floor slab work, accelerated material distribution using hiab cranes, concreting with concrete pumps and mobile cranes, and increasing the workforce across various sectors.
Furthermore, efforts are being made to accelerate the installation of steel roof structures, increasing manpower and adjusting work shifts for architectural and finishing works, and speeding up the connection of PLN electricity power through technical standard adjustments to panel layouts. The use of construction equipment such as mobile cranes, hiab cranes, excavators, bulldozers, vibro rollers, and mobile batching plants is being optimised to maintain productivity. With its complete and integrated facilities, East Java People’s School 1 is expected to serve as a model for integrated educational zones capable of producing a superior generation and strengthening Indonesia’s human resource quality.
