Public Works Ministry Builds Suspension Bridges to Boost Village Connectivity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is currently constructing four suspension bridges to support improved connectivity between villages, sub-districts, and districts in Banten Province.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that while suspension bridges are simple infrastructure, they offer immense benefits to the community. “Suspension bridges provide direct benefits to the people. Mobility becomes easier, the distribution of agricultural products becomes smoother, and access to public services becomes more open,” Dody said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
These four community-focused infrastructure projects are being built in areas previously separated by rivers, ravines, or hills to facilitate public mobility and support economic activities and basic services in rural areas.
Construction of the four suspension bridges began between March and April 2026, including the Inten Jaya Suspension Bridge, the North Cigoong Suspension Bridge, and the Kampung Bagu (Ciminyak) Suspension Bridge in Lebak Regency, as well as the Cibungur Suspension Bridge in Pandeglang Regency.
Dody noted that each bridge ranges between 40 to 80 metres in length and is specifically intended for pedestrians, two-wheeled vehicles, and ambulances during emergencies.
Dody stated that based on construction progress as of 25 June, the development of all bridges is showing positive progress. The Inten Jaya Suspension Bridge, with a main span of 8t0 metres, has reached 26.67 per cent physical progress. This bridge is being built to reduce travel time for residents who previously had to take much longer detours.
Furthermore, the Cibungur Suspension Bridge, which also measures 80 metres in length, has reached 19.25 per cent physical progress. This bridge will connect Tegal Papak Village, Pagelaran District, with Cibungur Village, Sukaresmi District, making inter-regional access easier, safer, and more efficient.
The North Cigoong Suspension Bridge and the Kampung Bagu (Ciminyak) Suspension Bridge are each 40 metres long and located in Lebak Regency. The North Cigoong Bridge, with 26.80 per cent progress, will ease access to schools, health facilities, and markets, while smoothing the distribution of agricultural products for residents in Salasih, Nagreg, and Paranje.
Meanwhile, the Kampung Bagu (Ciminyak) Bridge, with 23.50 per cent progress, connects Kampung Bagu, Ciminyak Village, Muncang District, with Kampung Cikaung, Sukamarga Village, Sajira District. These areas were previously separated by a river, so the bridge is expected to shorten travel time and improve travel safety.
According to Dody, the availability of safer and more efficient access is expected to drive increased community welfare and strengthen connectivity between regions in Banten Province.
The Ministry of Public Works is committed to completing the construction of these suspension bridges according to the established targets, ensuring the benefits can be felt immediately by the community and supporting equitable development in areas that have historically faced limited access.
