Public Works Minister to Reinforce Self-Help Bridge in Aceh

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has confirmed that the government will reinforce the Enang-enang bridge in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh, which was repaired independently by the local community, ensuring their efforts are not wasted. Speaking after visiting the bridge and discussing transport access solutions with residents, the minister stated that the government’s task is to provide maximum support so that the community’s work is not in vain. Following damage caused by a disaster, residents of Bener Meriah independently raised up to Rp1 billion to repair the bridge themselves. The bridge is now passable on a limited basis, and the government intends to strengthen it further. Dody noted that currently only motorcycles and passenger cars can cross, not goods vehicles, and that restrictions would be imposed. Regarding the bridge structure, he said that reinforcements such as support pillars would soon be installed underneath, though this measure is temporary and will be regularly monitored. If the structure is deemed to pose a danger to the public, it may be temporarily closed while repairs are carried out below, with the hope that passage will be safe once work is complete. The minister confirmed that the bridge can be used by small vehicles while awaiting permanent repairs and construction of a new bridge.
