Public Works Minister: Tarutung SPAM boosts water supply by 50 litres per second
Medan (ANTARA) - The Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, said the Tarutung Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM Tarutung) in North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, has received an additional water supply of 50 litres per second to serve communities in the area. ‘This clean water supply is for the communities in Tarutung and Siatas Barita districts,’ he said in Tarutung, North Sumatra, on Sunday. He said the additional supply of 50 litres per second would raise SPAM Tarutung’s capacity from 50 litres per second to 100 litres per second, enabling it to serve around 11,000 households in the area. ‘We target the installation of pipes for the expansion to connect this 50 litres per second capacity to the community by August or September 2026,’ he said. Dody added that with the increased capacity, it is hoped to strengthen clean water services for communities in Tarutung and surrounding areas. Through this step, the government hopes the community’s need for clean water can be met sustainably while also encouraging improvements in the quality of basic infrastructure services in North Tapanuli. Previously, the Minister of Public Works directly inspected SPAM Tarutung to observe the drinking water treatment conditions while discussing plans to increase clean water production capacity for the communities in the area. He also asked for support from the North Tapanuli Regency Government to assist in the process of increasing capacity, including in terms of providing land required for the development of clean water facilities.
