The Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, is targeting the absence of potholes on the northern coast of Java (Pantura) national highway in the western region by ten days before Eid 2026.

He noted that the number of potholes has been continuously decreasing. Data from the Head of the Large Balai Pelaksanaan Jalan Nasional (BBPJN) of DKI Jakarta–West Java showed that previously there were approximately 7,000 potholes. This figure has now been reduced to approximately 2,500 locations.

“The Head of BBPJN DKI Jakarta - West Java conveyed that there are still potholes at several points. They have decreased from about 7,000 potholes initially, now only 2,500 remain, but we will ensure that by ten days before Eid there are no potholes,” said Dody in Karawang, West Java on Saturday (28 February 2026).

“However, going forward, because we are discussing Pantura, perhaps in the last approximately 100 kilometres around the Brebes boundary area, we will conduct overlay work using Islamic State Securities (SBSN) funds. However, because this is 100 kilometres, it may require approximately two years. So the Pantura improvement work will be carried out more thoroughly,” he added.

The Ministry of Public Works has also confirmed the readiness of toll roads and national highways to support the flow of Eid exodus and return traffic in 2026.

Currently, there are 76 toll road sections operating with a total length of 3,115.98 kilometres. Supporting facilities include 136 rest areas, 189 public electric vehicle charging stations, and 539 toll gates.

The Minister of Transport has predicted approximately 144 million people will travel during the 2026 Eid exodus or Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri. This figure has the potential to increase compared with the actual figures from the previous year.

The Eid transport operation post will operate from 13 to 29 March 2026. The posts are tasked with coordinating land, sea, air, and rail transport modes.

The Ministry of Transport, together with the Police Traffic Corps, will also implement traffic management schemes. The schemes prepared include contraflow, one-way systems, and odd-even number plate schemes on several toll road sections with potential congestion.
