Public Works Minister Requests Additional Rp34.33 Trillion Budget to Complete Presidential Instruction Programmes
The Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, has requested an additional budget of Rp34.33 trillion for 2026 to complete various programmes implemented through Presidential Instructions (Inpres). Dody explained that the additional funding requirement includes the continuation of multi-year contracts amounting to Rp3.35 trillion and proposed new programmes valued at Rp30.98 trillion.
“To complete the tasks under the Presidential Instruction, the additional budget requirement for 2026 is Rp34.33 trillion,” Dody stated during a Working Meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Tuesday, 2 June 2026. He added that following discussions with the President and directions from Commission V, budgets for regional Inpres roads and regional irrigation are expected to be allocated.
He noted that the largest allocation will be dedicated to regional irrigation programmes, which require Rp14.65 trillion. Furthermore, the revitalisation of madrasahs requires Rp380 billion, the third phase of the ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s School) construction requires Rp3.95 trillion, and regional road construction for 2026-2027 is valued at Rp12 trillion. The proposal was submitted to the Minister of Finance on 22 May 2026 and will be proposed through additional expenditure for the 2026 fiscal year.
In an effort to support the ‘Asta Cita’ agenda, the Ministry of Public Works is promoting the ‘PU 608’ development vision, which requires synergy from all stakeholders, including local governments. Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, noted that current infrastructure development challenges are becoming increasingly complex and transcend administrative boundaries. AHY emphasised that infrastructure development can no longer be conducted sectorally or partially, as issues such as road connectivity, food distribution, and cross-regional water resource management are interconnected, necessitating an integrated approach for effective and sustainable national development.
