The Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, is optimistic that the construction of the People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) for East Java Province 2 in Pacitan Regency can be completed on time, despite progress reaching approximately 50 per cent as of mid-May 2026. The integrated education project, valued at Rp911.48 billion, is targeted for completion by 20 June 2026.

As of 15 May 2026, the construction progress of the People’s School in Pacitan was recorded at 50.47 per cent, slightly higher than the planned target of 50.44 per cent. The development is being carried out on a land area of 77,005 square metres.

Dody emphasised that the construction of the People’s School represents a long-term government investment in improving the quality of human resources while expanding educational access for children in the region. “The construction of this People’s School is a tangible form of the government’s commitment to developing superior human resources. The Ministry of Public Works wants to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with high quality,” Dody explained, as quoted from a press release on Sunday (17/5/2026).

The educational area is designed as an integrated education complex featuring various modern facilities. The main buildings currently under construction include primary, junior high, and senior high school buildings. Additionally, the complex will feature male and female dormitories, teacher housing, a mosque, a canteen, a communal kitchen, a dining hall, a parade ground, a basketball court, a mini-soccer pitch, and other supporting buildings.

With its integrated education concept, the People’s School in Pacitan is expected to serve not only as a place for learning but also as an environment for character building and improving students’ quality of life. To ensure the project meets its target, the Ministry of Public Works is implementing various national construction acceleration strategies. These include increasing heavy equipment, boosting the workforce, implementing a three-shift work system, and adjusting construction methods to optimise work.

“President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that the project must be completed on time and on schedule, with careful attention to quality, and executed effectively and efficiently. We are striving to ensure all our People’s Schools can be completed, God willing, by 20 June 2026,” said Dody.

In addition to supporting educational access, the construction of the People’s School in Pacitan is also expected to stimulate local economic activity through the involvement of construction labour, the demand for building materials, and the growth of community businesses around the project area.
