Public Works Minister: Medan–Sibolga road ready to handle Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming traffic
The national road corridor between Medan and Sibolga is ready to handle Mudik traffic starting seven days before Eid al-Fitr. Medan (ANTARA) - Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said the national road corridor between Medan and Sibolga and back is ready to face the Mudik and return flows for Eid al-Fitr 2026. He said that from field monitoring, only a few points along the route still require repair ahead of the outbound and return flows in the area. These include several landslide sites in North Tapanuli Regency on the route to Sibolga due to subsequent landslides. However, Dody stressed that authorities continue clearing debris from the road sections. The government has also prepared a command post to accelerate the response and cleanup of landslides at the site to ensure the traffic along the national road is not disrupted. He added that overall the Medan–Sibolga national road is in good condition. However, the potential for landslides is unpredictable, so they have prepared preventive measures to speed up access opening if landslides occur. “We also urge travellers to prepare their vehicles properly. In addition, physical condition should be maintained to ensure a smooth and safe journey to their destination,” he said. “If you feel tired while driving, it is advisable to rest at the nearest post so that journeys on the national road remain safe and smooth,” said Dody.
