Public Works Minister Inspects Post-Disaster Housing in South Tapanuli, 252 Units Under Construction
The government is accelerating the provision of housing for residents affected by the disaster in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra. The Ministry of Public Works has set a target for the housing facilities to be ready for occupancy so that residents can move into more adequate accommodation before Eid.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo directly inspected the construction of the housing units being carried out by PT Nindya Karya in South Tapanuli on Monday, 9 March 2026. During the visit, the Public Works Minister also shared a dawn meal with residents who had already moved into temporary housing units in the area.
“We are targeting that within the next few days the additional wells will be completed so that all eligible residents can immediately occupy this temporary housing,” said Dody according to a PT Nindya Karya press release.
PT Nindya Karya is developing a housing area on a site covering 14,369.03 square metres with a total of 252 housing units spread across 21 blocks. This housing is being prepared to accommodate residents affected by the disaster whilst also serving as a solution for more adequate temporary accommodation.
The area is equipped with a number of supporting facilities, including communal kitchens, washing areas, prayer rooms, multipurpose buildings, futsal courts, communal spaces, children’s play areas, guard posts, and green open spaces. Additionally, a wastewater treatment system with a capacity of 5 cubic metres is available.
The clean water supply system utilises bored wells and water tanks with pumps, whilst the electricity supply comes from PLN with a capacity of 900 watts for each unit.
Currently, two shallow bored wells are available and the government is accelerating the addition to four to five points to ensure adequate water supply for residents throughout all housing blocks.
The Regent of South Tapanuli Gus Irawan Pasaribu, who also attended the visit, expressed appreciation for the central government’s support in accelerating housing development for residents affected by the disaster.
Through this project, PT Nindya Karya stated its commitment to supporting the government’s post-disaster management programme by ensuring construction proceeds according to targets and construction standards.
