Public Works Minister Dody Prepared to Sanction Two Civil Servants Over Alleged Bribery and Ethical Breaches
The Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, has stated that the Ministry of Public Works is recalling two civil servants (ASN) who are currently pursuing education overseas due to allegations of receiving bribes and disparaging government programmes.
Dody explained that one civil servant residing in Japan is suspected of accepting bribes, while another living in the United Kingdom is allegedly involved in ‘flexing’ (conspicuous consumption) and ethical violations.
“We are recalling the one in Japan. The one in London has ethical issues, frequently flaunting wealth and even insulting one of the government’s priority programmes, known as MBG,” Dody told reporters in Candiyasan Village, Kertek District, Wonosobo Regency, on Friday (15/5).
Dody noted that the alleged violations by both civil servants could hurt the feelings of the public, especially since both are recipients of state-funded scholarships.
“Both of them are on scholarships funded by the state. Civil servants are supported by the public, which consists of various socio-economic categories. There are those who are wealthy and those who are not. Such behaviour will undoubtedly hurt the feelings of the lower-middle-class community,” he said.
Currently, the civil servant in Japan has been summoned and is being investigated by law enforcement agencies (APH). Meanwhile, the civil servant in London is expected to return to Indonesia shortly.
“One has been summoned due to bribery issues and is being investigated by law enforcement. We are merely facilitating the process. I do not know what the final outcome will be,” he remarked.
“As for the one in London, we have ordered them to return. They will likely arrive this Sunday, and we will process the matter on Monday,” Dody added.
During the process, the Ministry of Public Works will await the results of an investigation by the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM). Dody emphasised that he is prepared to impose sanctions on both individuals.
“We will wait for the examination by the BPSDM team. Afterwards, sanctions will be imposed,” he concluded.
