Public Works Minister Backed by President to Recover Rp1 Trillion in State Losses

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has given direct support to the efforts to complete findings of state losses of around Rp1 trillion within the Ministry of Public Works (PU). The minister recounted that the President even phoned him while he was on a working visit to West Sumatra. “I paused in the middle of a toll road; perhaps those in Padang know I paused on the toll road because the President called and expressed his appreciation and thanks. And at the same time asked me to continue to clean this up, and to make the Ministry of Public Works much cleaner, work more effectively, efficiently, and with no more leaks in the Ministry,” Dody said in a formal statement, Saturday (7/3/2026). He emphasised that the current focus is to ensure the findings are resolved quickly and the state losses recovered. “I would say our focus now is indeed on that, on how we can resolve this Rp1 trillion as quickly as possible,” Dody said. According to him, the funds, if returned to the state, would have a significant benefit for the public. “How many bridges can we help, how many children can go to school without having to swim first to cross, how many houses can be built, how many hospitals can be built,” he said. Dody also highlighted the practice of returning state losses which has historically been paid back in small instalments. “If yesterday we offered leniency, super-leniency to those who erred, just returning. Just returning, icrit icrit, Rp1 million to Rp2 million, many were pending. Because it was considered that returning Rp1 million from billions meant it was resolved,” he said. He stressed that the cleansing measures at the Ministry of Public Works have been a direct mandate from the President since the start of his term. “I am trying to carry out the orders of President Prabowo Subianto; on my first day I was summoned to Kartanegara, and the only instruction was: clean up,” said Dody.
