JAKARTA (JP): The City Land Transportation Control Agency has
impounded a total of 3,147 public transportation vehicles since
January this year.
Head of the Traffic Control Department of the agency Herman
Tonglo Langi said that among the public transit means which have
been impounded are minivans and three-wheeled vehicles such as
bemo, helicak.
"About 101 bemo, 14 minivans and three helicak were impounded
by our personnel because they did not have proper documentation,"
Herman said as quoted by Merdeka daily.
He explained that the impounded vehicles operated illegally on
legal routes. For bemo there are 10 routes in Central Jakarta,
nine in West Jakarta, six each in South and North Jakarta and
three in East Jakarta.
Herman explained that most of the vehicles also violated other
regulations, including the dropping of passengers at undesignated
destinations and the absence of drivers' uniforms.
He said currently all vehicles are at the agency's impounding
lot on Jl. Pemuda, East Jakarta. (yns)
