Public Urged to Be Prudent in Managing Responsible Funding

The growth of fintech lending is encouraging industry players to strengthen public financial education and management so that access to financing is accompanied by the ability to make responsible financial decisions.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) recorded outstanding fintech lending of Rp105.14 trillion as of June 2026. As access to digital funding increases, the public’s ability to match financing needs with financial capacity is considered an important part of maintaining the quality of industry growth.

Kredit Pintar, an online lending platform licensed and supervised by OJK, is responding through the ‘Teman Atur Uang’ approach. This approach is directed at helping users understand funding needs, maintain cash flow, choose financing according to their ability, and manage obligations until completion.

Kredit Pintar President Director Ronny Kasim said the company not only needs to provide access to financing, but also help the public understand the financial decisions they make.

‘Providing access to financing is one part of our role. However, a greater role is helping the public understand when they need funding, determine the amount that suits their ability, and remain in control until their obligations are met,’ said Ronny.

The approach is implemented through three principles: Maintain Cash Flow, Understand & Choose, and Stay Controlled. The first principle emphasises adjusting funding to the user’s needs and capabilities. The second principle provides information about financing options and consequences, while the third principle encourages users to manage obligations responsibly until the funding is completed.

Kredit Pintar Head of Business and Operations Irgo Bachtiar said expanding access to financing needs to go hand in hand with the application of responsible lending principles. According to him, technology and data can be used to understand the condition and ability of users so that financing can be provided more accurately.

‘Expanding access to financing does not mean lowering credit quality. We actually utilise data and technology to better understand the condition and ability of each customer, so that funding can be provided more accurately,’ said Irgo in a discussion session at Fintech Lending Days 2026 in Denpasar, Bali, recently.

Fintech Lending Days 2026 was organised by the Indonesian Joint Funding Fintech Association (AFPI) on 20–21 August 2026. The forum brought together industry players, regulators, and stakeholders in the fintech lending ecosystem to discuss industry developments and the implementation of responsible financing.

Irgo said the quality of industry growth cannot be measured solely by the value of financing disbursed. Another aspect that needs attention is the company’s ability to account for the financing provided and ensure users remain in control of their obligations.

‘Responsible borrowing does not stop at the decision when someone takes out funding, but covers the entire user journey, from understanding needs and capabilities before funding to completing their obligations,’ said Irgo.

Information transparency is also one aspect of funding management. Information regarding costs, tenor, payment amounts, due dates, and total obligations needs to be conveyed clearly so that users can consider financing decisions based on their financial condition.

According to Ronny, the future development of digital funding is not only determined by the ease of obtaining financing, but also the industry’s ability to help the public understand the consequences of financial decisions and use funding according to their capabilities.

‘This is a responsibility that we need to build together as an industry,’ said Ronny.

Kredit Pintar said its platform has been downloaded more than 36 million times and has a rating of 4.3 on Google Play Store and 4.4 on Apple App Store. The company also said it has more than two million user reviews in Indonesia.

Throughout 2025, the company recorded loan disbursement of more than Rp9.5 trillion. Since operating in 2017, the total accumulated loans disbursed are said to have reached more than Rp66 trillion.
